Nottingham Murder Suspect Locked Up Ahead of May 2023 Trial

A man accused of killing a Nottingham mum and her two young children has been remanded in custody. Jamie Barrow, 31, of Fairisle Close, Clifton, faces three counts of murder following the shocking blaze that claimed the lives of Fatoumatta Hydara, 28, and her children, three-year-old Fatimah Drammeh and one-year-old Naeemah Drammeh.

Arraigned at Nottingham Crown Court

Barrow appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, November 28, charged with the horrific murders. The tragic fire broke out at their home on November 20 in what police suspect was a deliberate attack.

Police Label Incident a Hate Crime, But No Evidence of Motive Yet

Nottinghamshire Police have classified the killings as hate crimes, following their strict policy that any offence perceived as motivated by hostility or prejudice must be recorded as such. Assistant Chief Constable Rob Griffin said:

“My thoughts and feelings are very much with Fatoumatta’s family during this incredibly difficult time. It is hard to comprehend the pain that these crimes have caused and the impact they have had on the wider community. These crimes have attracted worldwide attention, and it is now imperative we get justice for Fatoumatta’s family.”

Griffin confirmed specialist officers are supporting the grieving family and stressed the force remains open to all possible motives.

Police Urge Public to Stop Speculating Online

Despite the hate crime label, Griffin warned there is no clear evidence the attack was racially or religiously motivated at this stage:

“The investigation team will continue to keep an open mind on motive and will continue with their meticulous inquiries. I would now urge people to please refrain from posting speculation and comment about this case on social media. Speculating and commenting in this way has the potential to prejudice the criminal proceedings and could obstruct justice.”

The trial is set for May 22, 2023. Police remain committed to supporting the family and seeing justice served in this horrifying case.
