Cops Take on Violent Man Threatening to Kill
On May 6, 2021, PCs Joseph Tidmarsh and Jamie Long faced down a violent thug who openly threatened to assault or kill someone.
The officers forced entry through a smashed communal door and headed upstairs to confront the man. But the suspect charged out of his flat, punching PC Long and shoving PC Tidmarsh. Both the man and PC Tidmarsh tumbled down the stairs into the garden.
Brutal Assault, But Officers Hold Their Ground
The attacker stayed aggressive, getting back up despite the fall. PC Long escaped with minor injuries. PC Tidmarsh wasn’t so lucky, suffering severe bruises and pain.
Still, the officers kept their cool. They used a Taser and PAVA spray to finally subdue the violent man.
Justice Served and Bravery Honoured
The man was charged with multiple offences. He received a 12-month suspended sentence and was ordered to pay PC Tidmarsh and PC Long £200 each for damages.
“Despite being in pain, Joseph and Jamie remained calm and professional in a very violent situation,” said Police Federation Chair Paul Williams.
“In an intense and frightening situation, they communicated clearly with the assailant. This man was determined to injure or kill someone, and the officers bravely apprehended him. We are extremely proud of them, and they are deserving nominees for The National Police Bravery Awards.”
The National Police Bravery Awards celebrate officers across England and Wales who have shown exceptional courage on or off duty.
PC Tidmarsh and PC Long are set to attend the awards ceremony in July as proud nominees.
