Two Men Charged Over Fatal Folkestone Pub Shooting

Two men are set to face court over firearms offences linked to the deadly shooting of Joe Daniels in Folkestone. The 58-year-old was found unresponsive inside the Red Cow pub on Foord Road on Wednesday, 22 November 2017.

Victim Shot Dead Inside Popular Pub

Joe Daniels suffered a suspected gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, where police also recovered a firearm. The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate launched a full investigation and called on witnesses to come forward.

Suspects Arrested and Charged After Lengthy Probe

  • Two men, both aged 25, were arrested in January 2018 and January 2019 but initially released pending further enquiries.
  • On 11 February 2020, both appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court charged with serious firearms offences.
  • One man faces two counts of selling a prohibited weapon, possession of a firearm and ammunition without a certificate, and illegal conversion of an imitation firearm.

Police Update and Ongoing Investigation

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Vickery said: “The tragic death of Mr Daniels remains unsolved and our thoughts are with his family, who we have kept updated throughout.”

“We’ve sifted through more than 1,000 hours of CCTV and dashcam footage, taken over 350 witness statements, searched homes and seized 1,200 items for forensic analysis.”

“The two charged men have been eliminated from our inquiries into Mr Daniels’ death and are no longer suspects in the murder investigation.”

“Although there’s no new update on the case itself, we thank everyone who has helped with information so far.”
