Two Men Guilty Over Bromley Man’s Fatal Stabbing
Two men have been found guilty in the brutal stabbing death of 26-year-old Trei Daley from Bromley. The savage attack took place near the Colour Factory nightclub in Hackney Wick in the early hours of February 11, 2023.
Manslaughter and Grievous Bodily Harm Convictions
Christopher Appiah-Blay, 35, from Hackney, was convicted of manslaughter. His accomplice, 38-year-old Mawien Mawien from Romford, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm. Sentencing for both is set to be announced later.
Violent Night Spirals from Argument to Deadly Attack
Detective Inspector Jim Barry, who led the probe, revealed the chaos started after a fallout at a takeaway near the nightclub. Appiah-Blay argued with a woman and aggressively threw food at her. Trei Daley and friends stepped in to calm things down.
But the situation exploded when Appiah-Blay and Mawien, both armed with knives, launched an attack on Trei and his unarmed friend.
Knife Fight Caught on CCTV Ends in Tragedy
Police recovered vital CCTV footage showing the full sequence of events. Although Trei struck first, it was Appiah-Blay and Mawien who pulled knives and escalated the fight. The brawl moved into an alleyway, where Trei’s friend struck Appiah-Blay with a bottle.
The violence spilled onto the street. Mawien stabbed Trei’s friend in the back, and Appiah-Blay dealt two fatal blows to Trei’s chest. Trei was rushed to hospital but tragically died from his injuries. His friend survived but is still recovering after being stabbed in the back.
Both men were arrested and charged with murder. Investigators also found a receipt in Appiah-Blay’s home dated the morning of the attack, backing up the timeline.
Detective’s Message and Tribute
“This is yet another example of the devastation caused by carrying and using a knife,” said Detective Inspector Barry. He offered condolences to Trei’s family, remembering him as a loving father, son, brother, cousin, and friend.
