Brutal Drug Dispute Sparks Chilling Stabbing in Cambridge
Two men have been slammed with a combined 48 years behind bars after launching a savage stabbing attack over a drug rivalry in Cambridge. On 2 October last year, Shellem Miah and Maruf Riaz brutally stabbed a 54-year-old man twice in the chest on Nicholson Way. The victim was rushed to hospital with life-threatening wounds to his heart and sternum.
Armed Police Nab Fleeing Attackers After Fake Plate Getaway
The violent duo made a dash in a black Kia Sportage fitted with fake number plates, fleeing to Newmarket. But their escape was short-lived. Armed police caught them red-handed the very next day in Cambourne.
Spy Drama: Texts Reveal Paranoia and Ruthless Drug Boss
Investigators uncovered chilling messages exposing Miah as the ringleader of the ‘Biggie’ county line drug ring. Hot-blooded exchanges with the victim just before the stabbing show the tension boiling over, with Miah texting:
“on my life keep talking **** come see me now.”
After the attack, Miah’s paranoia shines through:
- “I’m confused what to do coz I don’t think they know lol.”
- “Hella feds everywhere but I don’t think they think it’s me yet.”
- “Trust me when I say this one is unsolvable.”
Heavy Jail Terms for Callous Attackers
Following a tense five-week trial at Cambridge Crown Court, both men were found guilty of grievous bodily harm and other crimes. Miah, 25, was handed a hefty 28 years and six months. Homeless at the time, Riaz, 25, got 19 years and six months. Both were surprisingly cleared of attempted murder.
Detective Constable Charlotte Anderson-Chapman said:
“This was a brutal and senseless attack over drugs that left a man fighting for his life. The level of violence used was shocking, and the sentences reflect the seriousness of their actions.”
“Drug dealing brings fear and violence into our communities, and this case is a stark reminder of the harm it causes. We will continue to target those who exploit vulnerable people and spread misery through drugs.”
