Drug Dealers Caught Using Car as Secret Stash Spot in Northampton
The East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) cracked a major drug ring after spotting Bradley Mundin and Christopher Cain using a Ford Focus as a ‘stash site’ for heroin and cocaine. The pair kept switching the car around, never straying far from Cain’s Northampton home.
Undercover Sting Leads to Arrest
On 30 April 2019, Cain was caught in the act. He parked his white Chrysler Voyager near Broadway and Collingwood Road, slipped into the Ford Focus, and stayed put in the driver’s seat for several minutes. Police stopped him and found wraps of heroin and about £800 in cash.
More drugs were discovered hidden in a drawstring bag inside the Ford Focus. DNA on cling film from the wraps pointed to 40-year-old Mundin, who was arrested later the same day.
Massive Haul Found at Mundin’s Home
- 96g of heroin
- Three kilos of cutting agents and drug tools
- Key to the Ford Focus
Cain’s fingerprints were also found at Mundin’s address. The seized drugs were valued at a staggering £850,000 on the street.
Guilty Verdicts and Jail Sentences
Cain, 53, denied the charges but was convicted of possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine in a previous trial. He was sentenced to four years and six months in Northampton Crown Court on 21 January 2021. Mundin pleaded guilty to similar charges and got three years and two months.
Both men now face a Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) investigation to see if they profited from their illegal activities.
“For Cain and Mundin to brazenly operate from such a public area and in broad daylight, just goes to show how they saw themselves as above the law,” said EMSOU Investigator Hazel Score. “Whether it is low-level dealing or highly organised trafficking, we are committed to cutting off drug supply and bringing those responsible to justice.”
