Hackney Horror: Gunmen Fire 13 Shots at Children’s Park, Leave Three with Life-Changing Injuries

Islington Duo Jailed for Brutal Gangland-Style Shooting

Sheikh Dibba, 21, of Central Street, and Fahim Rahman, 34, of Moreland Street, Islington, have been locked up for a terrifying October 2020 shooting in Hackney. The pair fired 13 rounds at innocent people enjoying a children’s play park, leaving three victims with serious, life-altering injuries.

Convicted of Attempted Murder After Planned Attack

The Central Criminal Court jury found the two guilty of three counts of attempted murder and firearms offences following a three-week trial.

Dibba was sentenced to a whopping 35 years behind bars, while Rahman was handed 27 years on 4 May.

On that fateful night, the pair drove a stolen car to Homerton High Street, targeting what they thought were rival gang members. Instead, they shot at innocent bystanders socialising in the park.

Met Police Praise Investigation and Call for Community Help

Two men, aged 60 and 32, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A third man, just 24, was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Police were called at 10.50pm and launched a swift investigation.

Trident detectives scoured hours of CCTV, leading to Dibba’s arrest on 27 November and Rahman’s earlier arrest on 25 November. Both were charged and convicted after thorough police work.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Allen said: “This was a terrifying attack on completely innocent people. It’s pure luck no one died. Had it happened earlier, when children were in the park, the consequences could have been devastating.

“These sentences send a strong message to anyone involved in gun crime. Your actions are reprehensible, and we will bring you to justice.

“Thanks to my team’s hard work and the victims’ incredible strength during this ordeal. We hope this verdict brings them some comfort.”

“The Met is committed to cutting violent crime, but we need the community’s help. If you know someone carrying a weapon, contact police immediately.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett added: “This shocking shooting has caused real concern locally – and rightly so. Firearms offences are extremely rare, but tackling violence stays our top priority.

“If you have any concerns or info about weapons, please come forward, anonymously or in person. We’re working closely with Specialist Crime teams to target dangerous offenders and keep Hackney safe.”
