Man Found Guilty of Fatal Stabbing in Ryde Brawl
A deadly fight in the early hours of May 28 ended in tragedy after a man was fatally stabbed outside a Ryde home. Winchester Crown Court has convicted Baker for the stabbing of Barton on Park Road.
Row Sparks After Hand-Holding Outside Bar
The violent clash followed Barton spotting Baker holding hands with his ex-girlfriend, Sammi Creed, outside a Ryde bar the night before. The court heard Creed was holding Baker’s hand because he was drunk. When Barton confronted them, he asked, “You going to do me like that?” Creed then let go of Baker’s hand.
Later, the group – including Rio Scott, also 28 from Ryde – hit more bars before heading back to Scott’s place on Park Road. Barton, who played cricket locally, turned up with his 84-year-old father to confront the group. After no answer at the door, they left briefly but returned soon after.
Stabbing Outside Home Leaves Barton Dead
What followed was a brutal attack. Barton was stabbed multiple times and died at the scene despite efforts by bystanders and paramedics. Both Baker and Scott were arrested. Baker claimed self-defence, while Scott denied involvement.
Scott was cleared of murder and manslaughter charges and released. Baker remains in custody, awaiting sentencing at a later date, as ordered by Mrs Justice Cockerill.
Tragic Reminder of Deadly Consequences
The case shines a harsh spotlight on how quickly a personal dispute can end in fatal violence. Barton’s death has left his local cricket clubs and community in shock.
