Two Men Sentenced Over Brutal Northampton Kidnap and Rape Spree
Trofim Midoni, 21, from Northampton’s The Mounts, and 24-year-old Valeriu Frunza, formerly of Kingsthorpe, have been locked up after a shocking eight-day trial at Northampton Crown Court.
Long Sentences for Horrific Crimes
Frunza was found guilty of 12 offences including rape, attempted rape, kidnap, and sexual assault. He was handed an 18-year sentence, extended to 20 years due to the grave risk he poses to the public. Midoni was convicted of eight offences and received a 13-year sentence, extended to 15 years for dangerousness.
Vulnerable Women Targeted and Traumatized
The pair targeted three vulnerable women they picked up in Northampton town centre between December 1 and 2, 2019. The victims were taken against their will to isolated locations where two were sexually assaulted and abandoned, while the third was brutally beaten and raped.
- First victim: kidnapped and sexually assaulted before escaping.
- Second victim: kidnapped, raped, and assaulted.
- Third victim: kidnapped and sexually assaulted.
All three women reported the attacks to Northamptonshire Police. The suspects were quickly arrested and have been in custody since.
Judge Condemns ’Degradation and Humiliation’
His Honour Judge David Herbert QC condemned the men’s “degradation and humiliation” inflicted on the victims, describing the crimes as a “joint enterprise” involving multiple offences against vulnerable women. Both men were slapped with indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Orders (SHPO).
Detective Inspector Liz Basham said: “I’m delighted by this sentencing and the very clear message it sends to these two men. They put the women through horrific ordeals that will haunt them forever. It’s reassuring to see they will be locked up for a long time.”
Detective Constable Megan Scotney praised the victims’ bravery and thanked the public for crucial evidence. “This case shows Northamptonshire Police’s commitment to tackling sexual violence and bringing offenders to justice,” she added.
