Couple Convicted of Stabbing 66-Year-Old Man to Death in Lewisham

A man and woman have been found guilty over the brutal stabbing death of 66-year-old Leroy Junior Edwards.

Kerry Donovan Guilty of Murder, Aaron Woolcock Manslaughter

Kerry Donovan, 29, from Southend-on-Sea, was convicted of murder at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 19 March. Her distant relative, Aaron Woolcock, 30, from Lewisham, was found guilty of manslaughter but cleared of murder.

Fatal Stabbing Inside Victim’s Home

The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of 18 August 2018 at Mr Edwards’ home on Ringstead Road, SE6. Donovan and Woolcock had visited the address where a heated argument escalated. Mr Edwards suffered multiple stab wounds before the pair fled the scene.

A neighbour heard loud banging and discovered a trail of blood leading to Mr Edwards’ door. Emergency services forced entry to find him stabbed with a large knife nearby. He was rushed to a south London hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Investigation Uncovers Motive and Arrests

  • Police launched a murder investigation immediately.
  • Post-mortem confirmed death by stab wounds to neck and chest.
  • A purse with Donovan’s ID was found at the scene.
  • Donovan faced financial troubles and was a known drug user.
  • She was arrested on 19 August 2018 and charged with murder two days later.
  • Following CCTV footage and witness reports, Woolcock was arrested a month later and charged.

Both suspects remained in custody pending sentencing on Thursday, 18 April.

Family Pays Tribute to Quiet Man

“We may never know exactly why Mr Edwards was killed,” said Detective Sergeant Brian Jones of the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command. “Whatever the motive, this senseless act robbed a family man of good character who had lived in that home for over 25 years.”

Family described Mr Edwards as a “quiet, non-confrontational man who liked to be at home.”

“Woolcock and Donovan now face the consequences of their actions,” added Sgt Jones. “I hope their conviction brings some solace to Mr Edwards’ loved ones.”
