Major Drug Bust Rocks Reading and Swindon

On May 3, police hit hard with simultaneous raids in Reading and Swindon, cracking down on dangerous drug supply networks.

Two Arrested in Coordinated Raids

Fortitude teams, backed by Neighbourhood Policing units, swooped on Aldworth Close in Reading and Somerville Road in Swindon. Katie Longmate, 37, from Aldworth Close, and Chakir Smith, 28, of London, were arrested and charged with supplying class A drugs, including heroin.

Court Drama Unfolds

  • Longmate quickly admitted guilt at Swindon Magistrates Court on May 4. She’s now behind bars awaiting sentencing on June 1 at Swindon Crown Court.
  • Smith denies the charges and was granted bail. He’s scheduled to face Swindon Crown Court on June 1.

Operation Targeted Class A Drug Dealers

The undercover action was sparked by intelligence about heroin and other class A drug supplies circulating between Reading and Swindon.
