Police Launch Murder Investigation
The girl’s injuries triggered immediate concern. kent-police/" title="Kent Police">Kent Police were alerted upon her hospital admission, leading to the arrest of two suspects. The Kent and 1 Serious Crime Directorate quickly took over the investigation.
Charges Filed Over Toddlers Death
After a lengthy inquiry and approval from the Crown Prosecution Service, two individuals were charged. On 24 March 2023, Jan Gholami, 32, and Roqia Ghulami, 31, both of no fixed address, were charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and child neglect.
Court Appearances and Next Steps
The accused appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on 25 March 2023. They were subsequently remanded to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 28 March for further proceedings.
