Tragedy in Kent village as one-year-old boy dies
On 28 November 2020, Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance rushed to a property in a quiet village after concerns were raised about the welfare of a one-year-old boy.
The toddler was rushed to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead, sparking a serious investigation.
Two Arrested in Child Death Probe
On the very same day, a man and a woman were arrested in connection with the heartbreaking incident. Both were bailed as Kent and Essex’s Serious Crime Directorate launched a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
Charges Filed Nearly Two Years Later
On Monday 6 March 2023, authorities charged Jack Benham, 34, of Highstreet Road, Hernhill, and Sian Hedges, 26, of Fillace Park, Yelverton, Devon, with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. The Crown Prosecution Service gave the green light for the charges.
The pair were remanded in custody and are set to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday 8 March.
