Two Sussex Cops Sacked Over Assault on Teen
Two East Sussex police officers have been booted from the force after being found guilty of using excessive force on a teenage girl. PC Deborah Sands, 48, and PC Kris Green, 36, faced an accelerated misconduct hearing on March 14 at Sussex Police HQ in Lewes.
Speedy Misconduct Hearing After Assault Conviction
The hearing was fast-tracked due to clear evidence and public interest in removing the officers quickly. Both were convicted in December 2021 for assaulting the girl during a detention in eastbourne/" title="Eastbourne" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Eastbourne back in May 2020. The charges followed a probe by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Chief Constable Slams Officers’ “Disgraceful” Behaviour
Chief Constable Jo Shiner ruled the officers had breached professional standards relating to discreditable conduct and ordered their immediate dismissal.
“We expect our officers to act with the utmost integrity, and in accordance with the force’s values, the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Professional Behaviour. The actions of these two officers fell short of that and in accordance with the College of Policing guidance, they have been dismissed from the force.”
