Two Men Jailed Over Brawl with Yarm Man Before His Mysterious Death

Two men involved in a fight with Yarm local Luke Jobson hours before he was found dead in the River Tees have been sentenced at Teesside Crown Court.

Edwin Taha Gets Six Years; Ali Abdulmajieed Handed Suspended Sentence

Edwin Taha, 20, of Norton, was slapped with six years and one month behind bars for affray and five counts of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply. Drugs included cocaine, MDMA, and ketamine.

Ali Abdulmajieed, 19, from Stockton, received a 15-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, for his part in the affray.

Brawl on Yarm High Street Ends in Tragedy

On the early hours of Saturday 26 January, Luke Jobson had an argument with an associate of Taha and Abdulmajieed on Yarm High Street. After a foot chase failed, Taha and Abdulmajieed jumped into a car driven by Abdulmajieed. The trouble continued near Yarm School, where Taha sprayed an unknown substance into Luke’s eyes.

The pair then drove off, leaving Luke on school grounds. CCTV later showed Luke entering a boathouse. Around 48 hours after the fight, Luke’s body was found in the nearby River Tees.

Prosecutor Clarifies No Link to Luke’s Death

Chris Atkinson from CPS North East said: “While Taha and Abdulmajieed have been sentenced today for these charges, our thoughts remain with the family of Luke Jobson, for whom this will no doubt be a particularly difficult time.

“We have proved beyond reasonable doubt that both men were involved in an affray with Luke prior to his death, but there is absolutely no evidence to suggest any causal link between their actions and the tragic events which followed.”
