Two Crashes on the A9: Police Hunt Witnesses for Key Info

Crash One: Near Newtonmore

Road cops are hunting for witnesses after a smash near the Ralia junction just before 2pm on Saturday, August 5. A white Vauxhall Crossland and a blue Jaguar XF collided. Two passengers in the Vauxhall — a 55-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man — were injured and rushed to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, but have now been discharged. Meanwhile, two women aged 61 and 55 from the Jaguar were treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Vauxhall’s 58-year-old male driver was arrested and charged. He’s due in Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday, August 7. The road was briefly closed but fully reopened by 8.20pm.

Crash Two: Near Aviemore

Later that day, at around 5.25pm, a multi-vehicle crash near the Lynwilg junction south of Aviemore involved four cars: a white Vauxhall Corsa, black Land Rover Discovery, blue Ford Fiesta, and silver Volkswagen Amarok. The 17-year-old male passenger in the Vauxhall was taken to Raigmore with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Another passenger, a 54-year-old woman, was also hospitalised but has been discharged.

The 56-year-old Vauxhall driver was arrested and charged, with a court appearance also scheduled for August 7. The road was shut for nearly two hours.

Police Appeal: Spotters and Dashcams Needed

Sergeant Ally Mackay from Police Scotland said: “We need anyone who saw either crash or has dashcam footage to come forward. It’s vital to help us piece together what happened.”

Both crashes remain under investigation. Police want to hear from anyone who can assist.
