Brutal Middlesbrough Assault Lands Man in Jail for 20 Months
Violent Arrest Sparks Police Drama
Craig Thompson, 46, has been locked up for 20 months after brutally attacking a police officer in Middlesbrough. The shocking incident took place on 22 June last year when police moved to arrest Thompson over a commercial burglary.
Rather than surrendering, Thompson launched a savage assault. The unnamed officer was punched twice, pinned down, and strangled in a horrifying struggle.
Backup Rushed to Rescue Officer
Calling urgently for help, the officer’s colleagues arrived quickly, subduing Thompson and making the arrest on the spot. He now faces charges of burglary, assaulting an emergency worker, strangulation, and possession of cannabis.
Thankfully, the officer escaped without lasting injuries from the vicious attack.
Court Deals Heavy Sentence
At trial, Thompson admitted to possessing cannabis, a Class B drug. After a two-day hearing in late January, a jury found him guilty of burglary, assaulting an emergency workers, and strangulation.
On 30 January, the judge hit Thompson with a 20-month prison sentence, sending a clear message that attacks on police will not be tolerated.
