Major Funeral Home Probe: Woman Cleared, Man Remains on Bail
A 23-year-old woman linked to the shock investigation at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull is off the hook, Humberside Police have confirmed.
35 Bodies Removed in Grim Discovery
The probe began in March after disturbing concerns over how the deceased were cared for at the funeral home on Hessle Road. Officers seized 35 bodies along with urns of ashes in a grim haul.
Who’s Still in the Frame?
- The woman arrested on 9 March has been released from bail with no further action.
- A 46-year-old man arrested the same day remains on conditional bail.
- A 54-year-old woman, arrested in July over money laundering, also stays on bail.
No charges have been filed yet.
Police Speak Out on Heartbreaking Case
Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin admitted the probe is “the most challenging and complex” due to the scale of grief involved:
“This investigation is by far the most challenging and complex due to the vast number of people who have been affected, and who continue to try to come to terms with the grief and the enormity of what has happened.”
Families of the 35 deceased have been kept informed. Back in July, police linked urns found to 163 families.
ACC McLoughlin added:
“Every strand of this investigation carries an untold amount of grief, heartache, and distress for those affected.”
The force is working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service and vows to deliver answers and justice as the investigation continues.
