Woman Faces Jail After Brutal Barney Butwell Assault
A Portsmouth mum has been warned she could still face jail despite being released on bail. Alicia Savage, 21, of Clarendon Street, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday before Judge Ian Pearson. Savage pleaded guilty to a serious charge of GBH (grievous bodily harm).
Victim Fights for Life After Savage Attack
The victim, 26-year-old Barney Butwell, suffered a severe head injury during an attack in the early hours of April 2. He was rushed to hospital where he spent six weeks in an induced coma. Doctors had to drain fluid from his brain twice to save his life.
Judge Issues Grim Warning Over Possible Jail Time
Police initially launched an attempted murder probe and arrested Savage over the violent assault. At the hearing, Judge Pearson told Savage he was considering all options – including imposing a custodial sentence.
“Just because you are on bail now doesn’t mean there’s no risk of jail,” the judge warned.
Bail Extended Ahead of Final Decision
Savage has been granted bail pending a social inquiry report, with the next court date set for 9 December 2016.
