Met Police Nab Woman Over Daniel Khalife Prison Break
Detectives have made a breakthrough in the hunt for Daniel Khalife, the prisoner who dramatically fled HMP Wandsworth last September. A 25-year-old woman was arrested in east London on suspicion of assisting an offender. She has since been released on bail until late April.
Two More Arrests in Khalife Escape Probe
Detective Chief Superintendent Gareth Rees, leading the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, confirmed the latest arrest. “We continue to carry out a thorough investigation into the full circumstances of the alleged escape of Khalife, and we have now arrested two other people as part of this,” he said.
Earlier this year, a 24-year-old man was also detained on similar charges. Both suspects remain on bail until late April. Importantly, neither suspect is linked to staff at HMP Wandsworth.
Khalife Faces Trial at The Old Bailey
Daniel Khalife is due to stand trial at the Old Bailey in October 2024. He denies charges connected to his prison escape. Khalife is also awaiting trial over serious offences including attempting to gather information for terrorist acts and possession of an explosive device.
Police Urge Public To Stay Vigilant
Detective Chief Superintendent Rees warned against sharing details that could jeopardise the trial. He urged the public to report any suspicious activity linked to terrorism, highlighting the crucial role of community cooperation in ongoing police investigations.
The Met Police continue to appeal for witnesses and information to help crack the case and reveal the full story behind Khalife’s audacious escape.
