Greedy Scammer Jailed for Stealing £1,000 Raised for Baby’s Memorial
A 26-year-old woman who pocketed £1,000 meant for a baby girl’s memorial has been locked up. Chanel Bailey duped kind-hearted donors after befriending a grieving mother whose premature baby tragically passed away.
Fake Fundraiser Exploits Grief
Bailey set up a crowdfunding campaign, claiming the money would go towards a memorial for the little girl. In total, 28 generous people donated, but Bailey vanished with the cash, spending it all on herself.
Justice Served: Two Years Behind Bars
Bailey was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for her vile scam.
Inspector Christopher Jury of Nottinghamshire Police blasted Bailey’s actions: “She took advantage of her victims’ pain and the charitable spirit of many people, just so she could treat herself on other people’s hard-earned money.
“The deception was cunning and manipulative and I am pleased the courts recognised this. There is absolutely no excuse for her actions and she is deserving of the prison sentence she will now have to serve.”
