A private jet has skidded off the runway at Biggin Hill Airport as a fierce Arctic blast batters the UK with snow and ice. The severe weather is wreaking havoc on roads, rails, and airports nationwide.
Private Jet Skids Off Runway at Biggin Hill
The Cessna jet, registered D-ISCV, was preparing for takeoff from Biggin Hill to Geneva when it slid off the runway. Eyewitnesses say the pilot may have aborted takeoff, causing the aircraft to slip just before lift-off.
Local reports say inbound flights were diverted soon after the incident. Biggin Hill Airport confirmed the runway excursion happened on 6 January 2026. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
“The AAIB was informed immediately and all flight activity was halted in line with safety procedures. Recovery of the aircraft is underway and expected to be completed later today,” an airport spokesperson told UKNIP.

Rail Travel in Turmoil as Snow and Ice Bite
Scottish areas under amber alerts expect 5-10cm of fresh snow, with uplands possibly receiving up to 15cm. Glasgow’s subway was shut down this morning after ice caused a power failure on the third rail.
LNER has warned passengers to avoid travel between Edinburgh and Aberdeen until after 2pm, with some services starting from Edinburgh instead. ScotRail issued warnings of ongoing disruptions across northern routes and the Highlands.
In the north west, cancellations hit Merseyrail Wirral and Northern lines, affecting routes to Southport, Headbolt Lane, Ormskirk, Hunts Cross, Ellesmere Port, and Chester.
Commuters are urged to check travel updates before setting out, as the Arctic freeze continues to paralyse UK transport networks.
