Grandad, 80, Dies After Brutal Attack by Gang of Kids in Braunstone Town Park

An 80-year-old grandfather has died following a savage attack in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town. Neighbours have named him as Bhim Kohli — a fit and active father of three and proud grandfather of two.

Leicestershire Police have arrested five children linked to the crime: three aged 12 and 14 (two girls and a boy aged 12, plus a boy and a girl aged 14). All face suspicion of murder.

Victim Attacked While Walking Dog Just Minutes from Home

Mr Kohli was walking his dog near the park entrance on Bramble Way at around 6:30pm on Sunday, September 1. Despite being just moments from his house, the retired factory owner was brutally assaulted and suffered serious injuries.

He died later in hospital, leaving his family and community devastated.

His daughter told LeicestershireLive the gang fled before emergency services could arrive. “He was only seconds from home when they attacked,” she said.

Longtime neighbour Deep Kaila, a friend for 35 years, spoke of his shock. “His family is shattered. He was a skinny, fit man who loved his allotment across the road. He had two sons, a daughter, and two grandsons. It’s a terrible loss.”

Mr Kohli spent years running a leicester/" title="Leicester" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Leicester factory producing jumpers and cardigans before retiring.

Police Investigate as Community Rallies

Leicestershire Police continue their inquiry. They appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The case has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous contact with Mr Kohli, though details remain confidential.

The local community is rallying to support the grieving family during this dark time.
