Tragic Death of 12-Year-Old Renoy Ellis in Kennington
Renoy Ellis, just 12 years old, tragically fell to his death from a block of flats in Kennington, south-east London. The boy plunged from an upper floor on Hotspur Street on Friday afternoon and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Heartbroken Half-Brother Pays Tribute
Jason Campbell, Renoy’s half-brother, described him as “an amazing person” full of potential. Speaking to the BBC, Campbell said, “Just a few weeks ago, we were playing football, table tennis, and walking in the park. On his 12th birthday, me and my girlfriend took him out. I was his role model, his big bro.”
Renoy had dreams of working in aerospace. “He was a bit of a nerdy guy, into computers, books, and excelling at school,” said Campbell. “He knew what life was about… he was so smart.”
Police Confirm No Suspicious Circumstances
The Metropolitan Police said there is “nothing to indicate that the incident is suspicious.” However, the investigation into Renoy’s death continues. An adult woman was also taken to hospital following the incident.
A police spokesperson confirmed, “Officers were called at 4.23 PM on May 24 to reports of a child falling from a flat in Hotspur Street, SE11. Despite efforts by the police and ambulance service, the child was pronounced dead. The family have been informed.”
Community Mourns and Calls for Answers
Lambeth Council expressed shock at the tragedy. A spokesperson said, “This is a truly shocking incident in our borough. Our thoughts are with the family at this tragic time. Council staff are supporting local residents and liaising with police as they investigate.”
Flowers now lie outside the flats as locals pay their respects. Labour MP Florence Eshalomi shared her condolences on X (formerly Twitter): “Very sad to hear of the death of a young child who fell from a block of flats this afternoon in Hotspur Street. My thoughts are with his family.”
Another Child Fatality Raises Alarm
This heart-breaking incident follows only days after five-year-old Aalim Ahmed died falling from a 15th-floor kitchen window in Plaistow, East London. Aalim landed on a railing and was pronounced dead instantly. Newham Council and coroners are investigating.
Caroline Stone, headteacher at Aalim’s school, said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family following this tragic accident.”
Police Appeal for Information
The Metropolitan Police urge anyone with information on Renoy Ellis’s death to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation.
