Child Grooming Suspect Arrested in Colchester Raid

Police swooped on a Colchester address as part of a major crackdown on child sexual exploitation in north Essex. Officers from the Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Proactive Investigation Team led the operation, supported by the High Tech Crime Unit and the Operational Support Group.

Man in 20s Held on Multiple Child Sex Offence Charges

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of several child sexual offences. These include sexual communication with a child and inciting sexual activity with a child. He remains in police custody as the investigation continues.

Meet the Essex CSE Proactive Investigation Team

Formed earlier this year, the CSE Proactive Investigation Team tackles both new and old cases where traditional safeguarding has failed. They work closely with partners and other Essex Police units to bring the most dangerous offenders to justice.

“We are a dedicated team targeting the highest-risk suspects exploiting children and young people,” said Detective Sergeant Ben Rushmere. “Our job is to handle the most complex and difficult investigations into child sexual exploitation.”

“Offenders vary from individuals to organised groups, often using fake online profiles or befriending youngsters with money or alcohol. We use every tactic available—both reactive investigations from referrals and proactive intelligence gathering—to stop them.”

“We also ensure victims receive tailored support from children’s charities, so they don’t have to interact with us if they don’t want to.”

“To offenders: we see and know more than you think. Whether victims come forward or not, we are coming after you. Essex Police is determined to make the county safe for every child.”

Speak Up to Protect Children
