Tragedy Strikes as Person Dies in Major Rescue Operation Between Dover and Deal
Tragedy struck tonight after a mass rescue involving three Coast Rescue Teams (CRTs) from Deal, Dover, and Folkestone. The UK Coastguard at Dover led the operation, with the Lydd-based Rescue 163 helicopter scrambled to the scene.
Coastguard Teams Scramble to Wooded Cliff Area at St Margarets
Volunteers were first called out at around 5:30pm to a wooded area nestled between Dover and Deal, near St Margarets in Kent.
A daring cliff rescue saw a coastguard team lowered by rope pulley to the base of the cliffs. Sadly, they found the person deceased — incompatible with life.
Night Operation Supported by Rescue Helicopter and Police
The coastguard helicopter used its powerful nightsun searchlight to illuminate the scene during the tense evening operation. Kent Police officers have also been deployed and are investigating the circumstances.
