Margate’s Roads Crackdown: 38 Cars Stopped, Speedsters and Reckless Drivers Nabbed!
Mass Police Operation Targets Anti-Social Driving
On Saturday 18 February, Margate’s Road Safety Unit teamed up with the Community Policing Team and Margate Task Force for a major crackdown on dangerous driving in the Dane Valley area.
Traffic Offences Mount Up
The joint operation stopped 38 vehicles. Officers handed out four Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) for no insurance, seven for speeding, one for using a mobile while driving, and one for not wearing a seatbelt. A Section 59 warning was issued to a driver caught behaving anti-socially behind the wheel. Another 18 drivers received advice for minor vehicle defects.
Chase Ends With Arrests
The drama didn’t stop there. When a car refused to pull over, officers pursued it briefly before it was abandoned nearby. Two suspects, including a 21-year-old man, were arrested. He’s now reported for driving without insurance or a licence. The other man was released without charge.
130mph Rider Caught
Later, as the officers left Thanet, they spotted a motorcyclist tearing down the road at 130mph in a 70mph zone. The rider was hit with a Traffic Offence Report for excess speed.
Police Speak Out on Road Safety
Chief Inspector Ian Swallow of the Thanet Community Safety Unit said: “We’re well aware of the public’s concerns around road safety and anti-social behaviour in this area.
“The community response was fantastic. We spoke to residents and listened to their issues firsthand.
“Operations like this are vital. We’ll keep cracking down to catch reckless drivers and keep Thanet safe.”
