PCSO Deborah Forsyth Honoured for Boosting Village Spirits with Choir
Community Hero Award for Thanet PCSO
PCSO Deborah Forsyth scooped a top prize at the Kent Association of Local Councils’ Community Awards. The scheme celebrates locals who go the extra mile for their communities.
Covering rural Thanet villages like Minster, Forsyth was recognised for launching Village Voices, a community choir that’s brought people together since 2019.
Village Voices: More Than Just Singing
The choir meets weekly at Minster’s Salvation Army Community Hall. Even during the pandemic, Forsyth kept spirits lifted by running online sessions to support those isolating or shielding.
“It’s really lovely to know that the work you do as a PCSO is appreciated,” said Forsyth. “The choir was set up to unite the community, lift people’s spirits through singing, and provide a friendly ear to talk crime, anti-social behaviour, or to offer support.”
Fundraising and Family Fun
The choir’s back in action, helping raise over £900 at a concert for the Minster Clock Face Restoration Appeal on 30 October at St Mary’s-in-Thanet church.
Police Praise for Community Commitment
Sergeant Paul Robson from Thanet Community Safety Unit praised Forsyth’s dedication:
“Her role is as much about supporting residents as crime prevention. It’s no surprise the choir has grown to 70 members — Deborah truly goes above and beyond to keep the community safe and connected.”
