Wild Student Party in Portsmouth Ends in Fines and Possible Expulsions
Police busted a noisy student party at Catherine House on Stanhope Road, Portsmouth. Neighbours reported loud music, and officers soon uncovered the gathering defying strict Health Protection Regulations.
Fines and Summons for Rule-Breakers
The Response and Patrol team swooped in and slapped attendees with £200 fixed penalty notices. Those caught face summons for flouting the law amid ongoing pandemic restrictions.
Inspector Slams Irresponsible Students
“We have a great relationship with most students through our University links,” said Inspector Marcus Kennedy. “It’s disappointing to hear about this party, but thankfully the vast majority of students follow the rules.
“While we usually engage and explain, enforcement was needed here. Partygoers risked their own lives and others’, adding pressure to the NHS.”
He warned fines for parties of 15+ will soon jump to £800 following Government plans.
University Threatens Expulsions
Professor Graham Galbraith, Vice-Chancellor of University of Portsmouth, condemned the party. “This behaviour is totally unacceptable and won’t be tolerated. Students who broke the law and endangered others will face harsh consequences.
Their reckless actions undermine the efforts of the majority obeying the rules. Besides police fines, offenders could be permanently expelled from the University.”
