11-Year-Old Girl Shot Twice with BB Gun in Darlington
A shocking attack in Darlington’s Derwent Street has left an 11-year-old girl fighting for her life. The schoolgirl was playing outside with friends when she was shot twice by a gas-powered BB gun.
Serious Injuries as BB Lodged in Lung
The girl’s dad broke the heartbreaking news on social media: “My daughter is 11. Last night she was shot in the back with some sort of gas powered gun with a BB. She’s now in hospital with a BB stuck in her lung.”
She might need surgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) as medics assess her condition.
Police Launch Hunt for Shooter
Durham Police confirmed the shooting happened at around 6.50pm on August 15. The girl was struck twice – once in the back, once in the leg – and rushed to Darlington Memorial Hospital.
A force spokesperson said: “Police attended Derwent Street following reports that a young girl had been shot with what is believed to be a pellet gun. Officers are now reviewing CCTV and conducting house-to-house enquiries to trace the suspect.”
Community on Edge as Police Boost Patrols
Sergeant James Woodcock of Darlington Neighbourhood Police Team said: “This is obviously a very concerning incident for all involved and we will be increasing patrols in the area to reassure the community. If anyone has any information, please come forward and speak to us.”
