Man Arrested After Spate of Sexual Assaults Rocks Tameside
Greater Manchester Police have snapped up a man in his 30s over a string of chilling sexual assaults in the Tameside area. The attacks happened over a three-day blitz from Friday, July 8 to Monday, July 10, 2023.
Eight Shocking Attacks Across Manchester and Ashton
The eight reported assaults painted a grim picture. It kicked off with an attack on a tram heading towards Ashton under Lyne on July 8. Then, on July 10 alone, one happened in a Manchester pub, three more hit public transport between Manchester and Ashton, plus incidents on a road in Droylsden and two more on a footpath in Ashton.
Detectives believe the incidents are all linked based on the striking similarities between the accounts.
Police Take Swift Action as Investigation Ramps Up
The suspect remains in custody while officers grill him as part of a fast-moving probe. Detective Sergeant Zoe Bannister from Tameside police said: “We’re taking this very seriously. There’s zero tolerance for sexual assault here. We’re moving quickly to get to the bottom of what happened.”
Sgt Bannister added that victim support is a top priority. She urged anyone with information to come forward, telling the public: “This arrest shows we’re determined to act fast and decisively. We will never be complacent – keeping our communities safe is our number one job.”
