Two Years On: Who Shot Alexander Kareem in Shepherd’s Bush?
Alexander Kareem, 20, was gunned down in the dead of night on June 8, 2020, in Shepherd’s Bush. The young man was riding his e-scooter home after a quick stop at an off-licence when he was shot and left to die on Askew Road.
Cold-Blooded Murder Still Unsolved
Police received the tragic call just after midnight. Officers, along with the London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance, rushed to the scene but could only pronounce Alexander dead 45 minutes later.
Now, two years later, detectives remain determined to find the killers. Over 20 officers from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have sifted through CCTV footage and followed leads, but the gunmen have yet to face justice.
Family’s Heartbreaking Plea
“Today marked two years since my brother Alex was murdered in cold blood on the streets of London,” said Alex’s sister Khafi. “It feels wrong to commemorate this type of anniversary; wedding anniversaries, birthdays, and other milestones should be celebrated and remembered, not a day of death. However, his murderers have yet to be apprehended after two years. This is not acceptable.”
“It hurts me every day and doesn’t get any easier. I just find better ways to suppress my grief as time passes, but every time it comes up, it’s like a dagger to my chest all over again. I used to have three brothers, but now I only have two. And the perpetrators are still on the streets. It irritates me to no end. It is not too late to come forward with any information.”
The Hunt for Answers Continues
Investigators believe Alexander was shot in a case of mistaken identity. Witnesses reported seeing a white Range Rover speeding past him just before the attack. Minutes later, the getaway vehicle was found burned out three miles away on Ascott Avenue.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, leading the inquiry, said: “No one deserves what happened to Alexander, and we will not stop until those responsible are caught. His family miss him terribly, and the fact his killers are still free only adds to their pain.”
