BBC Axes Apprentice Contestant Over Antisemitism Claims

The BBC has acted fast, dropping Dr Asif Munaf from the spin-off show The Apprentice: You’re Fired amid serious antisemitism allegations. Munaf, one of 18 contestants on the 18th series of the main show, faced backlash after controversial antisemitic comments surfaced on social media.

Board of Deputies Slams ‘Despicable Antisemitism’

The Board of Deputies of British Jews condemned Munaf’s behaviour, labelling his posts “despicable antisemitism.” Although Munaf apologised for any offence caused and denied hateful intent, his online activity sparked outrage just before the latest series began. He blamed his views on his upbringing but admitted to using “ill-judged & emotional language.”

BBC Cuts Munaf from Spin-Off but Keeps Him on Main Show

The BBC confirmed Munaf will be removed from all additional Apprentice-related content, including the popular You’re Fired spin-off. However, he remains on the main show’s episodes. A BBC spokesperson stated: “We can confirm that the individual concerned will not feature as a guest on any additional upcoming BBC content relating to The Apprentice.”

Calls for Tougher Action and Apologies Grow

Marie van der Zyl, President of the Board of Deputies, criticised the BBC’s response as too slow, insisting the network would have acted swifter if another group were targeted. She demanded a public apology to the Jewish community and antisemitism awareness training for all involved.

Despite producers offering Munaf specialist training to understand the impact of his posts, concerns escalated after the show finished filming. The ongoing controversy highlights the BBC’s challenge in tackling antisemitism while maintaining public trust.
