12-Year-Old Boy Found Dead in Shocking Dublin Murder-Suicide

A grim tragedy has shaken Dublin after 12-year-old Oisín Reddin was found dead from asphyxiation, an inquest has confirmed. His father, Wayne O’Reilly, 48, was also found dead, suspected to have taken his own life.

Disturbing Scene Uncovered in Clondalkin

Oisín’s body was discovered in a bedroom at Lindisfarne Grove, while his father’s body was found earlier on Cherry Orchard Drive, Ballyfermot. O’Reilly, who battled mental health issues, had a history of threatening harm to himself and his son—though no charges were ever brought.

Oisín’s mother, Pamela Reddin, formally identified her son at Dublin City Mortuary, accompanied by Garda Lisa Sexton and Oisín’s grandmother the day after the bodies were found.

Coroner Clare Keane stated: “The cause of the boy’s death was external obstruction of the airway.” She added, “I am so sorry for your loss.”

Investigation and Child Welfare Under Scrutiny

The inquest has been adjourned until September 29 as Gardaí continue probing the full circumstances behind the tragedy. Inspector Paul Mayock requested additional time to examine the postmortem report and Garda evidence.

Oisín was known to Tusla, Ireland’s Child and Family Agency, but was not in state care. In October last year, Oisín and his father went missing, sparking a Garda alert before they were found safe in a Limerick hotel two days later.

Tusla had allowed Oisín to live under a safety plan supervised by his father and extended family. Now the National Review Panel is conducting an independent investigation into the case to assess welfare measures and what lessons can be learned.

Family’s Troubled Past

  • Wayne O’Reilly had multiple arrests under the Mental Health Act.
  • He reportedly sent threatening messages about harming himself and Oisín.
  • Despite warnings, no legal action was taken, and Oisín remained with his father.

This heartbreaking case throws a spotlight on the challenges faced when mental health crises threaten vulnerable children. Authorities vow to carry out a thorough investigation and comprehensive welfare review.
