16-Year-Old Shot Dead by Moped Rider in Broad Daylight in Stockwell

Eyewitnesses Describe Deadly Ambush Near Stockwell Tube

The victim, described by locals as a “very bright” schoolboy, was gunned down on Paradise Road close to Stockwell Tube station around 2:30 PM on Tuesday, March 4.

An eyewitness said two boys were coming down stairs from a block of flats when the moped rider suddenly pulled out a handgun and opened fire. One boy fled the scene while the shooter sped off on the moped.

The victim was reportedly well known in the community and believed to be involved in gang activity.

Police Launch Manhunt, Forensics Hunt for Clues

The Metropolitan Police have called the killing an “enormously shocking incident.” No arrests have been made yet. A large police cordon remains in place at the scene.

Forensic teams have been examining an escalator handrail inside Stockwell Underground Station, suggesting the suspect may have escaped via the Tube.

Community in Fear After Brazen Daytime Shooting Near School

Residents are rattled by the violent attack, which took place near a primary school where children were playing outside.

“This area is not safe at night. There are a lot of teenage boys causing trouble, playing around with the cops. It can get serious — someone I know got stabbed last year,” said a local young woman.

“The attackers had no shame — there’s a primary school next door.”

MP and Mayor Condemn Shooting, Call for Justice

Labour MP Florence Eshalomi called the killing a “shock to the system.” She promised: “Stockwell is a vibrant, diverse, close-knit community. We are going to make sure there is a visible police presence to reassure people.”

“This is a sad, wasted life; this boy could have had so much potential. His future has been robbed. The family and community will continue to grieve—you can never get over this shock.”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan slammed the “senseless killing,” urging witnesses to come forward.

“This abhorrent violence has absolutely no place in our city. An investigation is underway to find those responsible, and local residents will see increased patrols in the area. I urge anyone with information to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. There is no honour in staying silent.”

Rising Youth Violence in London

This fatal shooting adds to growing concerns over youth violence in London. Last year, 11 young people were killed — 10 stabbed, and only one, 15-year-old Rene Graham, shot dead.

Recent high-profile shootings include:

  • November 2024: An eight-year-old girl and her father were shot in their car in Ladbroke Grove.
  • May 2024: A nine-year-old girl suffered life-changing injuries after being shot while dining with family in Dalston.

Police Appeal for Information

The police urge anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information to come forward immediately.

  • Call: Police on 101 (reference 4116/4MAR)
  • Anonymous tips: Contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit Crimestoppers-UK.org

The investigation is ongoing as officers work tirelessly to track down the suspect.
