Exclusive: Man Arrested in East Cowes Child Grooming Raid
Early Morning Police Strike on Isle of Wight
Police swooped on a property in East Cowes at dawn today (Wednesday, 21st February 2018) in a dramatic raid. A man, whose identity is being withheld, was arrested on suspicion of child grooming offences. He was taken to Newport Police Station for questioning by the Isle of Wight’s Public Protection Unit.
Crackdown on Online Grooming and Child Abuse
The targeted operation aims to stop online grooming and the sharing of indecent images of children. Officers seized a “significant number” of computer devices during the search, including mobile phones and the suspect’s laptop.
A police insider revealed: “We acted on intelligence suggesting these devices were used to download or share indecent images of children or facilitate grooming.”
Ongoing Investigation Into Digital Evidence
All seized equipment is now in the hands of specialist units, who will sift through data to confirm the extent of offences committed. So far, police have not disclosed how many children may be involved or how long the grooming activity may have been going on.
