British Soldier Fights for Life After Brutal Knife Attack Near Kent Barracks
A British serviceman is battling for his life after a savage knife assault just yards from Brompton Barracks in Chatham, Kent. The chilling attack, eerily similar to the 2013 murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby, has left the local community stunned and raised urgent questions about military security.
Masked Assassin Stabs Soldier Over 70 Times
At around 6pm on July 23, the soldier, in his 40s, was ambushed less than 200 metres from the barracks. The attacker, masked and wearing a NASA bomber jacket, rode up on a red moped before launching a frenzied knife attack.
- The soldier was stabbed more than 70 times with two kitchen knives.
- Witnesses described the attacker licking blood from the blades in a grotesque display.
- Onlookers rushed to help, administering first aid until emergency services arrived.
The injured soldier was airlifted to hospital, where he remains in a serious but conscious condition. He is reportedly able to speak, though his wounds are grave.
Police Arrest Suspect – Terrorism Not Ruled Out
Kent Police quickly detained a 24-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities say the suspect appeared to be specifically targeting military personnel, prompting heightened security around the barracks and local areas frequented by servicemen and women.
With unsettling parallels to the Lee Rigby attack, investigators are keeping all options open, including the possibility of terrorism. National security agencies are closely monitoring the probe.
Army and Police Respond; Community on High Alert
An Army spokesperson expressed deep concern for the injured soldier and urged the public to support the ongoing investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the soldier and their family during this incredibly difficult time. We are working closely with Kent Police to understand the full circumstances of this attack,” the spokesperson said.
Kent Police have sealed off the area near Sally Port Gardens and boosted patrols. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.
