A Met spokesman said: “At approximately 2:15am on Thursday, 23 November, officers attempted to stop a car in the Waterloo area. The vehicle failed to stop and an authorised pursuit took place.”

He added: “A short time later, the suspect vehicle passed through a red traffic light before colliding with a second vehicle on Clerkenwell Road at the junction with Gray’s Inn Road.”
