Care Home Dances Through Covid Precautions with Elvis and Essentials
A care home in Shawford, Hampshire, is throwing some serious dance moves while battling Covid-19. Staff and residents at Bracken-lea Care Home were caught joyfully grooving to Elvis Presley’s Rock Around the Clock, all while holding packs of toilet roll and hand sanitiser.
Protective Gear and Positive Vibes
Visitors have been barred to stop virus spread, while staff gear up in full protective coveralls and face masks. Activity Co-ordinator Stef said, “The residents think we look funny in our temporary uniforms, but it hasn’t worried them.” With residents aged 70 to 100, health and safety is the top priority.
St Patrick’s Day Cheer Without the Crowds
The home also celebrated St Patrick’s Day with cups of Guinness—though the high spirits came more from the atmosphere than the alcohol. To keep families connected, virtual visits via Skype and phone calls have replaced in-person visits.
Award-Winning Care and Plenty of Loo Rolls
Bracken-lea, a specialist residential home for 125 residents, has bagged four awards for outstanding care. The team hasn’t just kept spirits high—they’ve ensured there’s no shortage of essentials. Stef added, “We wanted to put smiles on people’s faces and show we’re working hard to keep everyone stocked up.”
No shortage of loo rolls here! A big thank you to all care workers protecting the vulnerable in these tough times.
