Reading Stabbing Declared Terror Attack
Shock as Reading stabbing on June 20 is officially labelled a terrorist incident. Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) has taken charge, working closely with Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Department since last night.
Suspect in Custody
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon confirmed this morning that the stabbing is being treated as terrorism. A 25-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody.
Police Offer Support Amidst Community Shock
Chief Constable John Campbell said: “I am deeply saddened by the events of last night. This was a truly tragic incident and the thoughts of Thames Valley Police are with all those who have been affected.”
“Incidents like this are very rare, though that offers little comfort to those involved. We understand the deep concern felt by the local community.”
“Police cordons remain in place and will likely stay for some time while investigations continue. We urge the public to avoid the area and thank everyone for their patience.”
“Please avoid speculation. If you have any video footage or information, contact us on 101 quoting reference 1159 20/6. For respect to victims, do not share footage on social media.”
Investigation Ongoing
Counter Terrorism Policing will release more updates later today. Meanwhile, the community is urged to stay calm and cooperate with police as the probe unfolds.
