Beware Unlicensed Taxi Scams in Bournemouth and Poole

Dorset Police have sounded the alarm over rogue taxi services operating through social media in Bournemouth and Poole. Drivers offering unofficial lifts are putting the public’s safety at serious risk.

Police Warn of Dangerous, Unvetted Drivers

Detective Constable Christian Bryant of Bournemouth CID warned:

“Unlicensed drivers haven’t undergone background checks and are unlikely to be insured to carry passengers. Their cars may be unsafe and could target vulnerable men and women.”

He added, “Getting into an unlicensed cab is just as risky as stepping into a stranger’s car.”

Council Urges Public to Choose Licensed Taxis Only

Councillor Bobbie Dove from BCP Council urged caution:

“If you get into a car with someone you don’t know, you’re putting your personal safety at risk. Licensed taxis and private hire drivers undergo regular criminal record checks, and their vehicles are inspected at accredited garages every six months to ensure safety.”
