Tragedy on Pollard Street: One Dead, One Injured in Ancoats
Terrifying scenes unfolded at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, when police were called to Pollard Street in Manchester’s Ancoats district following reports of an incident involving two men.
Man in 20s Dies, Another Hurt
Officers arrived to find two males injured. A man in his 20s was rushed to hospital with leg injuries and is currently receiving treatment. Tragically, another man, also believed to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
Murder Suspect in Custody
Overnight, a 23-year-old man turned himself in at hospital. After extensive inquiries, he was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Wes Knights of GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of the man who sadly died. Specially trained officers are providing support.”
“We have made progress with the investigation and reassure the public that there is no ongoing threat to the wider community. However, extra officers will remain in the area over the coming days.”
“We appeal to anyone with information—especially dash cam footage from Ancoats between 6.15pm and 6.35pm last night—to come forward. Tips can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
