96 Drivers Caught Red-Handed in Royal Wootton Bassett Crackdown!
Project Zero Targets Deadly Driving Offences
Police officers on Project Zero patrols in Royal Wootton Bassett and nearby villages have nailed 96 motoring offences this week alone. The crackdown is part of a county-wide effort to slash fatal road injuries by tackling the notorious ‘fatal five’ offences.
Weekly Ops Ramp Up Road Safety
Every Wednesday, Project Zero swings into action across different parts of the county. This week, the team boosted patrols to hunt down speed demons, drink and drug drivers, distracted motorists, seatbelt slackers, and careless drivers.
Operation Tramline Joins Forces with National Highways
Adding muscle to the operation, cops teamed up with National Highways and NRPOI on Operation Tramline. An unmarked HGV prowled the M4, spotting offenders who thought they could slip under the radar.
“During the day, a total of 96 motoring offences were detected, ranging from speeding, failure to wear seat belts, and using mobile phones while driving, as well as vehicles with insecure loads,” said Acting Inspector Will Ayres.
Speed Traps and Community Concerns
The speed enforcement team hit four hot spots, including Cricklade, Charlton, and Little Somerford, following complaints from locals. Notably, a driver was clocked at 48mph in a 30mph zone in Little Somerford.
Next Wednesday, Project Zero will be back, targeting a fresh location as the fight against reckless driving continues.
