Shock as Eclipse Bus Driver Caught Texting While Driving Packed Bus
A Gosport bus driver has been snapped using a mobile phone while behind the wheel of a crowded Eclipse bus. The single-decker, ferrying around 30 passengers between Gosport and Fareham, was caught speeding at about 40mph on a busy stretch of Wych Lane and Hutfield Link.
Passenger Spots Driver Texting at Speed
An 18-year-old Fareham College student, a regular on the route, was left stunned by the driver’s reckless behaviour. “I had to look twice,” she told us. “To see a supposed professional risking everyone’s safety like that — it was shocking.”
The quick-witted passenger managed to snap a photo of the driver one-handed on the wheel while texting with the other hand. The bus was clearly in motion, as the speedometer showed.
Complaint Raised, Police Involved
The student’s parents have since handed in a formal complaint to the bus company, attaching the damaging photos. They have also reported the driver’s dangerous driving to the police.
Bus Company Promises Action
First Bus, operators of the Eclipse service, say an investigation is underway. Dervla McKay, General Manager of First Solent, said:
“We have been made aware of images showing a driver using a mobile phone while driving one of our vehicles. We are identifying the driver and will investigate thoroughly. We take these incidents very seriously and thank the customer for bringing this to our attention.”
Passengers and locals await swift action to ensure safety is put first on Gosport’s buses.
