Eighteen Sought Over Violence at Hackney Police Clash

Police hunt 18 suspects after brutal violence erupted at illegal Hackney music rave.

Rave Turns Riot on Woodberry Down Estate

Last Friday night, Hackney’s Woodberry Down Estate erupted into chaos. Local residents called the police distressed by a loud, unlicensed music event that spiralled out of control. The illegal rave drew a large crowd, refusing to disperse even after officers urged them to leave.

Unlicensed music events remain banned, especially with COVID-19 risks still high. The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) sent specially trained public order officers when initial efforts failed.

Violence Erupts as Police Intervene

As officers tried to clear the area, they faced a wave of violence. Attendees hurled canisters, bottles, and even a bicycle at the police. Two officers were hurt – one hit in the ribs and hospitalized, the other injured his leg but stayed on duty.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested for violent disorder and obstruction. The entire crowd was finally dispersed by around 4am after a violent standoff.

Police Seek 18 Suspects From Rave Riot

Detectives have reviewed CCTV, officer bodycams, and social media footage, identifying 18 individuals believed to be involved in aggression against police and the public. Images of eight suspects have been released, with more expected as the investigation continues.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Lucy D’Orsi said: “The violence and disorder are totally unacceptable and have caused real fear in the community. These illegal events are dangerous and put everyone at risk – from the threat of violence to COVID-19. We urge people to stay away and help us keep their neighbourhoods safe.”

She added officers would increase patrols this weekend, using stop and search where necessary to clamp down on violence and keep London safe.
