Gas Explosion Rocks Blackpool Guest House – Pregnant Woman Rescued
Emergency services scrambled to Charles Street, Blackpool, after a gas explosion ripped through a guest house at around 5:55pm on Saturday, 23 September.
Rescue and Aftermath
Police, Lancashire Fire and Rescue, and Ambulance crews rushed to the scene. Paramedics treated multiple casualties on site. Two people, including a pregnant woman trapped during the blast, were taken to hospital.
Aimee Barrow, whose mum lives on the street, described the devastation: “The whole back of number 1 has been blown out. Windows and glass are scattered across the street.” She added, “I don’t think it’s looking good for the old lady — she was in the kitchen when it exploded.”
Safety Measures and Evacuations
A safety cordon now blocks off the area. Residents on Charles Street and nearby Milbourne Street have been evacuated. Roads including Cookson Street and Grosvenor Street are closed. Authorities urge people to steer clear of the zone.
Help for Evacuees
Police advise anyone displaced by the explosion seeking shelter or a warm drink to head to either the Salvation Army Citadel on Raikes Parade or St John’s Church on Church Street.
