TikTok Family’s Home Targeted in Suspected Arson Attack
A TikTok family’s South London home went up in flames in a shocking suspected arson attack — just before midnight on Wednesday.
The Smithy Family, who boast 2.5 million followers, shared dramatic footage of their semi-detached house on South Gypsy Road in Welling as it burned.
Trolls Leak Address, Send Nasty Surprises
The family’s rising TikTok fame has attracted nasty trolling. Their home address was leaked online, leading to unwanted visitors and deliveries, including takeaways and even escorts, showing up uninvited.
Inferno Destroys Home Exterior and Vehicles
- Four fire engines and 25 firefighters rushed to the scene.
- Fire gutted the exterior soffits, fascia, and guttering of the house.
- Damage also hit the front hallway and part of the neighbouring property’s window fascia.
- A car, five mobility scooters, and skip contents outside were destroyed.
- No injuries reported.
Firefighters Praise Quick Response
“We were called to reports of a car alight that had spread up the outside of the house,” said Sub Officer Tim Sammons. “There were a number of mobility scooters parked outside which had caught alight and were producing a large amount of smoke and flames. Everyone was out of the building before we arrived.”
The fire brigade took 16 calls. Fire crews from Bexley, Plumstead, and Erith stations battled the blaze, which was under control by 12:30am.
Investigation is ongoing. Fire dogs scoured the scene for ignitable substances as the Metropolitan Police work alongside the Brigade to find the cause.
