Fifty Lambs Stolen in Midnight Farm Heist
Police are hunting thieves after roughly 50 lambs were snatched from a farm near Hursley in the dead of night. The three-week-old Welsh Mule and Texel Suffolk cross lambs vanished between midnight and 6am on Thursday, 28 March.
Vehicle Used to Haul Lamb Loot
Officers say it’s likely the culprits used a vehicle to haul the lambs away from the field. Tragically, two lambs were found dead following the raid.
Farmer Left Devastated Over Loss
“Understandably the farmer is very concerned for the welfare of these animals,” said PC Steve Rogerson from the CountryWatch team.
“The ewes could suffer or even die, and other lambs might perish from shock. The stolen lambs face danger during transit and from being separated from their mothers. This theft will hit the farmer hard financially, but it’s even more heartbreaking as he raised these lambs from birth.”
“Such incidents are extremely rare in Hampshire. We’re urging rural communities to spread the word and help us find the stolen sheep.”
“If you know someone who suddenly has lots of lambs or a farm experiencing an unexpected lamb surge, get in touch.”
Community on Alert for Stolen Lambs
Hampshire NFU Adviser Sandra Nichols expressed shock over the theft.
“This crime raises serious animal welfare concerns for the ewes and lambs. Please report any suspicious sightings or activity to the police.”
“Farmers should double-check their roadside gates are secure to prevent more thefts.”
