Massive Blaze Erupts in Farnham Newsagent After Loud Explosion
Huge Explosion Rocks Farnham Late Saturday
Six fire engines and 40 firefighters raced to Station Hill, Farnham just after 11pm on Saturday night. A massive explosion shook nearby shops and homes before flames burst from the front of Station Hill Newsagents and off-licence. The shop is said to be fully alight.
Emergency Services Launch Full Response
Fire crews from Surrey and Hampshire scrambled to the scene, while Surrey Police slapped down a huge cordon and closed off the road. The South East Coast Ambulance Service deployed a specialist HART team along with multiple resources.
Residents Evacuated from Smoke-Filled Flats Above Shop
Police rushed to evacuate residents living in flats on the second and third floors above the blazing shop. “We were in the Mulberry when it happened,“ a local witness said. “We got evacuated and had to navigate through Station and down Firgrove. Total chaos and panic, but we helped calm people and tended to minor injuries.”
A Surrey Fire & Rescue spokesperson confirmed, “Fire crews are tackling a fire in a three-storey building used as an off-licence and flats.”
No Injuries Reported as Firefighters Battle Blaze
Firefighters from Farnham, Rushmoor, Guildford, Godalming, Camberley, and the Incident Command Unit from Painshill are on the scene. Fire investigation officers from Surrey have also arrived to probe the cause.
Surrey Fire has now confirmed that everyone has been safely evacuated and there are no reported injuries from the dramatic fireball. The blaze continues to burn as crews fight to bring it under control.
