Flames Erupt on A340 at Heathrow – Fire Crews Rush to the Rescue
Drama at Heathrow Airport on Friday evening as flames burst from an aircraft’s auxiliary power unit (APU). Firefighters from Heathrow’s own fire service and the London Fire Brigade sprang into action after ground staff spotted the blaze.

Just after 7.10pm, personnel at the UK’s busiest airport caught sight of flames shooting from the rear of an Airbus A340 parked on the stand. The sight sparked an immediate emergency response.

Fire crews rushed to the scene but found the airport’s fire staff had already tackled the flames. The small fire was quickly and fully extinguished, preventing what could have been a major incident.
